Importand dates for new Qld pool safety laws
Home Owners
If you're not selling or leasing your property, you have until 30 November 2015 to comply with Queenslands new pool safety standards.
Landlords
Before you can tenant your investment property you must have a pool safety certificate registered on your property. This requires a pool fence inspection also know as a swimming pool safety inspection. Pool inspections can only be performed by licenced pool safety inspectors.
Swimming Pool Registrations
All pools and spas must be registered on the new Queensland Pool Safety Register by the 4th of November 2011. Unregistered pools and spas risk a $2000 fine.
Buying a property without a pool safety certificate
Properties sold without a pool safety certificate must be inspected and compliant within 90 days of settlement. $1600 fines are currently being handed out to non-complying properties who exceed the 90 days timeframe.

The new pool safety laws aim to further reduce the incidences of drowning and serious immersion injuries of young children in swimming pools.
Queensland's swimming pool safety improvement strategy has two stages.
Stage 1 was introduced on 1 December 2009 and applies to new residential pools.
Stage 2, The final stage of the swimming pool safety laws is expected to start this summer (December 2010). Stage 2 mostly affects existing swimming pools. It is important that all pool owners are familiar with these new laws.
